Cristina Cattaneo

Full professor of Legal and Insurance Medicine
In Human Hall, she oversees the Right to Identity project, the Migration and Human rights project and the Integration and acceptance of children and families of foreign origins project
Full Professor of Forensic Medicine at the University of Milan, where she also teaches Anthropology, and as Director of LABANOF, Laboratory of Forensic Anthropology and Odontology, and MUSA (University Museum of Anthropological, Medical and Forensic Sciences for Human Rights). She is a consultant and expert witness for several Courts in Italy and Europe on forensic medical and anthropological issues. She is involved with the Office of the Extraordinary Commissioner for Missing Persons in identifying migrants killed at sea. She deals with victims of sexual and domestic violence, the forensic medical assessment of asylum seekers who have been victims of torture, and children and families of foreign origin. By 2021, she was one of the most internationally cited forensic scientists and today, she is Co-Editor in Chief of Forensic Science International. She received the Adelaide Medal, a scientific award from the International Academy of Forensic Sciences, and the Clyde Snow Award from the American Academy of Forensic Sciences for her work and research in forensic and humanitarian sciences. In 2017, she was conferred the title of Commendatore of the Italian Republic. She participates in television and radio broadcasts for the scientific popularization of forensic medicine, forensic anthropology, and the importance of identification.
