HUMAN HALL AGAINST DISCRIMINATION
OUR RESEARCH AREAS (2025-2028)
Human Hall has developed three integrated lines of research, designed to tackle discrimination from complementary perspectives — technological, social, cultural, legal and health.

discrimination
DISCRIMINATION AND
VULNERABILITY
BETWEEN LAW
AND MEDICINE
TEAM
The project team brings together legal, IT, linguistic and socio-cultural expertise. It is led by Prof. Marilisa D’Amico and is divided into research groups dedicated to AI, hate phenomena and vulnerabilities in the medical-legal field. It involves constitutionalists, experts in EU law, IT, linguistics and intercultural mediation, supported by Human Hall researchers and doctoral students and third sector organisations. The interdisciplinary approach allows for the integration of regulatory, technical, communicative and social analyses to develop tools for the protection of rights and training courses for inclusion.
WHY WE DO IT
We know that the challenges posed by technological change, migration, social dynamics and new needs require a solid, interdisciplinary and rights-based approach. Human Hall aims to bring together research, training and concrete action — building knowledge, tools and practices to be made available to institutions, businesses, the third sector and civil society
OUR SERVICES
FOCUS POINT
ARTIFICIAL
INTELLIGENCE AND
HUMAN RIGHTS
In an era marked by digital transformations and the growing use of AI for decisions on healthcare, education, public services and welfare, this line analyses how automated systems and algorithms can affect access to fundamental rights. The aim is to assess the risks of discrimination arising from unbalanced data or logic and to define criteria for inclusive algorithms that respect rights.
Hate phenomena, stereotypes
and discrimination
Focusing on stereotypes, prejudices and hate speech — including in intersectional forms — this line combines law, linguistics, communication and computer science to map and analyse hate speech phenomena, identify mechanisms of dissemination and develop tools for prevention, counter-narrative and awareness-raising.
DISCRIMINATION AND VULNERABILITY BETWEEN LAW AND MEDICINE
This line explores how conditions of vulnerability — in terms of health, age, disability, gender, socio-economic status — can create barriers and discrimination in access to health and social care services. Through a bioethical, clinical and legal approach, the project aims to identify critical issues and propose best practices and operational recommendations for more inclusive services.
